THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: House and Home:

  • If the beds are made first thing in the morning and the kitchen sink and counters are cleared of dirty dishes, you are in pretty good shape. If guests come you can do a quick sweep of anything else.

  • “A place for everything, and everything in its place” is a motto for good housekeeping.

  • Teaching little children to pick up toys and put them away before naptime or bedtime keeps your home straight and teaches them good organizational and housekeeping skills.

  • It is not expensive to have an organized home. Even shoeboxes can be good storage places for small items. Baskets are great for organizing things, and you can get inexpensive ones at yard sales or at big box and dollar stores.

  • A home that displays things that make your own heart happy will feel like a place of love to a stranger.

  • Daylight is cheap and a wonderful way to make your home seem inviting. Less can be more in window dressing.

  • Family pictures can be some of the greatest wall art.

  • If someone in the family has a favorite chair, let them keep it.

  • A pretty blanket or “throw pillows” can disguise worn furniture.

  • Patterned/multicolored rugs are great for families. They don’t show hard traffic or pet hair as easily.

  • A house is a shelter for the body; a home is a shelter for the soul.

  • It takes wood, bricks, and mortar to build a house. It takes love and kindness to build a home.

  • Peace can reign amid chaos, but chaos cannot reign over peace.
