Leaving an Eating Disorder
First we cut out bread. Then we were eating salads and an egg, plus a fruit at lunch. I remember when Linda cut down to only an egg and an apple. Then I cut out the egg. One of the male teachers who sat at our lunch table commented one day, ”You girls better start eating something more because I am getting tired of you devouring my lunch every day with your eyes.”

Thoughts on Writing
If truth be told, I have had a desire to write since I was in second grade. One of my best friends at that time and I used to read Nancy Drew mysteries, and we spent many a day dreaming that we were just like Nancy Drew, solving mysteries. We also talked about writing books like those stories that we loved so much.

Thoughts on Life During Stressful Events
When stressful events happen, it is natural to feel a sense of trepidation and fear. The value of going through things beyond our control is that we get a better sense of our own shortcomings, and we learn to give ourselves and others more room to fail and to grow.

Building an Addition
Here it was! We were going to have This conversation. It was so sweet of my daughter to ask, but taking us into their house was too much to ask of the two of them and their family, and I knew that only too well, having had my parents live with us for seventeen years at the end of their lives.

Thoughts About Accidents & Discipline
The word ‘discipline’ comes from the same root word as the word ‘disciple,’ and to disciple a person means to teach. In the same way, really discipline is teaching.

Thoughts on the Thankful Heart
I think thankfulness is something that can become a habit. The more you practice being thankful for things the more it seems to be easier to think thankful thoughts. And the more you think thankful thoughts, the more you truly feel thankful.

Some Thoughts About Discipline
Love, Leadership, Teaching, Consistency, Training, Consequences, Mercy and back to Love…when we talk about discipline, we are really talking about all of these things.

The Biggest Question of All: Part 6
As I left the conference, the whole world seemed to glow. I drove home, but my heart was flying. I knew that God was real!!! I KNEW THAT GOD EXISTED AND THAT HE LOVED ME!

The Biggest Question of All: Part 5
I looked out over fields to the lights of a building about two miles away. It was a dark night, but it was warm, and a gentle breeze comforted me. I began to think about life.

The Biggest Question of All: Part 4
The lights in the auditorium dimmed and a choir began to sing. “Oh Happy Day! Oh Happy Day...!” the songs were joyous, foot-tapping, uplifting songs, and most of the people seemed to know all the words. Unbidden tears started to come to my eyes.

The Biggest Question of All: Part 3
It was Sunday again. It had snowed and our new little MG was covered in a white blanket. This was depressing and such a great excuse for staying home in bed. I debated letting another of the ten promises go. After all, I had only gone for two Sundays at this time.

The Biggest Question of All: Part 2
Since my search was about the existence of God, I decided I would give God ninety days to prove to me that he was real. But I also decided that I would up the ante by making a list of things I would do for those ninety days for the possible God, so that if I got no answer, I could know that I truly tried to be good on my side of the challenge. I made a list of ten things I would do while I waited for ninety days for God to move.

The Biggest Question of All: Part 1
After thinking all of this through, it seemed clear to me. The biggest question of all boiled down to only one thing: IS THERE A GOD?

Thoughts on Life
If anything is important in this crazy world, Life must be. Without life, there is no existence. Existence IS life.

Things to Think About: House & Home
If the beds are made first thing in the morning and the kitchen sink and counters are cleared of dirty dishes, you are in pretty good shape. If guests come you can do a quick sweep of anything else.

Through the Generations: Family
It is one of the most valuable gift mankind has been given and at the same time one that sometimes can be the most maddening… FAMILY! No one wants to be in this world alone, with absolutely no one to relate to, no one to care for or to have care for you.

Personality is Both Innate and Learned
It only takes parents two children to learn that personality is something we are born with. That first child was so easy (or maybe so difficult, or so outgoing, or so quiet), and the parents are expecting the same kind of child as they wait for their second. To everyone’s surprise, the second child seems to be a different person altogether.

The Problem of Childcare
Mothers everywhere work. We work in the home or we work outside the home AND inside the home, but either way, we DO work. Especially if we have children at home, we work.

Paris! A Feast for the Soul
PARIS!! Just the name speaks of history, of fashion, of mystery and of the possibility of new horizons that could change one’s life.

Moving
Our family moved a lot. My mother often said the best way to clean was to move from one home to another every three years. As a very small child, we did seem to move about every three years. But when I was in grade school and beginning junior high, we moved every year for a series of years, and the moves affected my life negatively.
